Explored: Hockey Pucks

Posted on 28th February 2013 in explored

Spending a little time going through my old boxes of .stuff. I found my collection of hockey pucks.

I remember I had a set of them from the year our Peewee team won the Provincials back in the day. I had put tape around each of them to write which game of the Provincial Finals they were from. I didn’t find those pucks, I found the pucks that had all the team logos on them.

Needless to say, I saved the pucks from being lost forever, and they now are in a proper box labelled and everything.  This is a small selection of the pucks I had.

I found it funny that on the Canucks puck it says it’s made in Czechoslovakia, and the LA Kings puck is made in Canada. The LA Kings puck is an official puck, used in a game, and so was the team Canada puck. You can actually feel the hardness difference in the pucks between cheap collectors pucks and game used ones. All the pucks were used in games of the team represented on the pucks, except the Canucks one.

I used to roam in ice rinks a lot..

Vancouver’s Wall at The Bay

Posted on 7th July 2011 in events, photojournalism

I took a stroll down to the epicenter of the riots some silly folks in Vancouver decided to partake in after the Canucks lost game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Vancouver reacted to this by showering effected shop owners with love and cleanup efforts that warmed many devastated heart, including writing slogans of hope to the city on plywood put up by the bay. I talked to a person along the street and they said that they had to put a second layer of plywood because it was full of names. I’m wondering if they’ll put these up somewhere for art or a sign of love?

I’d like to shout out to @thefalconer for founding the #thisIsMyVancouver hashtag on twitter, which soon turned into a local campaign for people to share what they loved about Vancouver.

This is what I found.

Downtown Vancouver for the Canucks Game 7 Loss To Boston

Posted on 16th June 2011 in events, photojournalism

So, the home team, the Vancouver Canucks, were in the stanley cup finals last night, and it was game 7, and it was being played here, at home. Clearly, as an interested photographer (see my flickr, tumblr) I had to go down and catch it. What I had planned was to catch a very busy crowd. That was it.

How prepared was I for what I saw? I had my flash, my T1i, and 3 memory cards. Incidentally, I was disappointed that I had forgot to transfer the files from one of my memory cards, which as it turned out I didn’t need it in the end.

What I found was something else. Something that started off beautiful quickly turned into something very very ugly. I could feel it, as other people I talked to said they could feel it, deep within my belly. These pictures can explain.
