Tristan & the Soskas

Posted on 6th May 2017 in artists, portraits & headshots

This is a case of rad humans doing rad things. The Soska Sisters are movie directors and actresses. Just to give you an idea of their radness, a few days after the shoot I was chatting with Jen who said she was just at a farm practicing how to be put on fire. Tristan Risk (previous, instagram, fb, fb page, twitter), the mutual friend who brought this all together, is good friends with and acts with the Soskas in movies, all around bring a rad human doing pretty rad things. For example, I’ve photographed Tristan spinning fire before.

The Soska Sisters, being fairly specifically horror film directors, and Tristan, being primarily of the occult, made accessories to this shoot fairly easy to choose. They all come with a big bag of tricks.

Breaths of Fire

Posted on 6th January 2017 in After Dark, artists

Some events in life, while you’re there doing it, you’re caught up in the thrill of it all and excited and enjoying everything. When you look back on it though, you think to yourself: “Man, that was crazy.” Fire artists are crazy. Yeh, you know that stuff that bites you, singes the hair on your arm, burns your fingers as you reach into the fire momentarily to shift a log? Yeh, that same fire stuff. These rad humans are kissing it.

These rad humans, these fire artists are: Vivianne Oblivion (fb), Tristan Risk (previous, instagram, fb, fb page, twitter), and Holy Scar (fb, instagram)

The day we shot this it was bloody cold. As I sat waiting for these fire breathers to show up, I pulled out an emergency blanket/scarf thing I always carry and wrapped my rattling bones in it. The wind was blowing hard. If you want to learn anything about fire, it’s that it needs oxygen to burn, the more oxygen a flame gets the more it’ll grow. Now, mix all of this with staffs, pio, fand and a bloody SWORD dipped in fuel that are designed to burn a long time, and you have yourself some pretty dangerous artistry tools on your hands.

Seriously though, Vivianne swallowed a burning sword.

The 90s had Stripes With Tristan Risk

Posted on 20th April 2014 in fashion

The 90s came and went, but the heart and soul never left.

Do you remember how you believed?

Kurt Cobain? The Refreshments? Alice in Chains?

Dr. Martens?

Tristan Risk (fb, fb page, twitter) and I had been planning on doing a shoot for a while now, but every time we had planned to shoot one of us was either too hungover or too sick to do it. Finally we connected and went down to Spanish Banks in Vancouver, BC. to explore what we felt of the 90s… with smoke bombs of course.

All I can say is thank goodness she had a pair of Dr. Martens!
