Pigeons and Protests with Shira

Posted on 16th September 2012 in fashion

In Athens, Greece I managed to hook up with Shira, a model from Model Mayhem [also her FB page] after we spent some time dreaming up a shoot idea. I’ve been trying to focus more on stories, rather than just shooting. This process makes it more creative for me I feel, sending me away from just a GWC [guy with camera].

This is the first part we did outdoors to get warmed up. It is shot using my 50mm and T1i, the usual suspects, as well as my Yongnuo YN468 speedlite, a very trusty bird. I had my big diffuser mounted on top of it for most of the shots which gave it a really nice fill. I’m definitely still learning how to work with this, and to play with light, rather than just fill it up completely. But, the more I do, the more I learn.

It was fun stumbling about that motorcycle. I mentioned how beautiful it was, and she also said she liked it, and then the giant spot light was directly on it.. and then we both understood what had to happen! No, we did not ask for permission to sit on it..

Oh, also when we were just finishing up in the square amongst pigeons, we started to hear a protest coming closer towards us. It got a bit exciting when Shira wanted to take off her heels to put on her sandals just in case we had to start running..

Walks in the Park With Lola Frost

Posted on 20th July 2012 in fashion, risque

I thought that I had lost these photos somewhere when I had moved to Europe for half a year, but then I realized I just had them mixed in with some photographs of flowers! Well, I guess it’s fitting since Lola Frost and I did take a walk in the park, and we did do a photoshoot in the park.

It was actually quite funny while doing this shoot, as many people kept walking right through the shoot. First, as we pulled up, there was a lacrosse team in the box practicing.. They all lined up along the fence to watch as Lola walked by, it was quite awesome. Next, a lady on her bicycle biked right between Lola and I as I was shooting. Lastly, two girls walked through the baseball field and were making cat calls and whistling the whole way. Oh what fun times in the park!

For those of you that don’t know, Lola is one of the queens behind Sweet Soul Burlesque, and Vancouver Burlesque Center where some of the most amazing women reside. Check them out. Also, Lola and I have done a few shoots before. If you’re a return customer of this site you’ll remember in the studio, or the after dark shoot, or on the train tracks

This shot was done entirely with my 50mm prime, and I had one off camera flash that I triggered with my Cowboy Studio NPT-04 FM Radio Trigger, but this was only used to fill in a bit of shadows as some of them were vicious. I’m also just trying to learn what I like!

August Wiled and Her Wiles

Posted on 17th July 2012 in fashion

Too long ago now I got together with a good friend, and up and coming burlesque star August Wiled to romp through the backwoods of the Fraser Valley and find some beautiful spots to pull off a shoot in. I think we found a few..

Definitely stand by what I’ve said before that dancers really do know how to explore poses in front of a lens, it was a pleasure to work with her, and get to know what makes August, August. She was professional and came with a whole bag of clothes to wear, she wasn’t shy, and she flaunted it.

The shoot happened just after August came second place in the 2012 Strip Search Vancouver burlesque competition, giving her a very big kick start to her burlesque career.

The whole shoot was shot with my trusty 50mm prime, and I had a new flash with a wireless synch that automatically fired the flash when the shutter was released that I used on some of the shots for some very light filling.

Photo Shoot with Kemi

Posted on 26th September 2011 in fashion

On the weekend I had the opportunity to take pictures of the very cute and fun Kemi, out by the Fraser River. I had a fun time, luckily the clouds kept their rain in until just after we finished, when it started to downpour!

It was a little cold, but we made it through!
